Privacy policy
Last updated 25 October 2026
In short
- Snapshots use public information about practices. We never need data about patients.
- The questions we send to AI tools are about a town and a kind of practice, not about people.
- We don’t use cookies or advertising trackers.
- You can ask us to see or delete your data, or your snapshot page, at any time.
Who we are
Being Named is a trading name of Connor Neary, a sole trader based in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. We are the “controller” of your personal data under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
Contact: hello@beingnamed.com, or write to Office 2130, 92 Castle Street, Belfast BT1 1HE, United Kingdom.
Information Commissioner’s Office registration number: ZC274593.
What we collect and why
| What | Why | Legal basis | How long we keep it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Snapshots: a practice’s name, website and town, the questions we asked and the AI tools’ answers | To show a practice how AI tools describe it and its area. Answers can name other practices and the people who run them, as published on the web. | Legitimate interests (providing and explaining our service) | 12 months, or less if you ask us to delete a snapshot. |
| If we contacted you: your business email address and name, as published on your practice’s website, and your snapshot | To tell a practice about a service relevant to it. | Legitimate interests (telling businesses about our services) | Deleted within 6 months if you don’t reply. If you ask us not to contact you, we keep only your email address on a do-not-contact list, so we don’t. |
| Emails you send us, and our replies | To answer your questions and arrange work. | Legitimate interests (replying to you) | Up to 2 years after we last hear from you, unless you become a customer. |
| If you book: your name, email, practice name and address, billing details and what you bought | To provide the service, send receipts and keep business records. | Contract, and legal obligation (tax records) | 6 years after the end of the tax year of the sale, as UK tax rules require. |
| Work files: reports, notes, and any access you give us to your profiles or website | To do the work you booked. | Contract | Access is removed when the work ends. Work files are deleted 12 months after the work ends, or sooner if you ask. |
| Your IP address and browser details | To deliver the website and keep it secure. | Legitimate interests (running a secure website) | Our host keeps short-term request logs. |
| Visit counts | Vercel Web Analytics counts page views and a few actions without cookies and without identifying you. | Legitimate interests (improving the site) | Kept as combined totals. |
Who we share it with
We don’t sell your data. We use these providers to run the business, and they only use your data on our instructions:
- Vercel Inc. hosts the website, stores snapshots and provides visit counts (USA).
- OpenAI and Perplexity answer the questions we send them (USA). The questions contain a town and a kind of practice, not personal data, and we ask OpenAI not to store the answers.
- Otterly measures Google’s AI answers for audits. It receives the questions and the names of the practices being compared.
- Google provides our email through Google Workspace.
- Stripe processes payments. Stripe also uses some payment data for its own purposes, such as preventing fraud, under Stripe’s privacy policy.
Transfers outside the UK
Some of these providers process data in the USA. Those transfers rely on the UK-US “data bridge” where the provider is certified under it, or on the UK’s approved contract terms (the International Data Transfer Addendum).
Cookies
This website doesn’t set cookies. If you switch the prices between UK and US, your browser remembers that choice on your device, and it’s never sent to us. When you pay, Stripe’s checkout page sets its own cookies to process the payment securely.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to limit how we use it, or to move it to another provider. You can object to how we use it at any time, and we’ll always stop sending you marketing if you ask. Email hello@beingnamed.com; we’ll reply within one month.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We’d appreciate the chance to put it right first.
If you’re in the United States
We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t share it for targeted advertising.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
